PARTY LEADERSHIP:
Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, March 2004 - present. The Conservatives won 99 seats and retained Official Opposition status in the 2004 elections, a gain of 21 seats (over the combined previous election performance of the Canadian Alliance and Progressive Consevatives). The Conservatives won 124 seats and minority governing status in the 2006 elections, a gain of 25 seats.

Leader of the Canadian Alliance, March 2002 - December 2003. In October 2003, the Canadian Alliance and the Progressive Conservative Party announced they would merge to form a new party named the Conservative Party of Canada. When both parties formally ratified this agreement in December 2003, Harper's term as Leader ended with the dissolution of the Canadian Alliance.
